Everybody is safe and sound...but I did a terrible thing. I let the pressure of wanting to deliver on a promise overcome my better judgement. I had promised to take a good friend and his brothers fishing in Galveston at the Jetties. (they drove and flew from all over Texas to go fishing). As you may have seen, the forcast was 20% chance of rain and thunderstorms, wind 10-15kts, seas 3-5 feet. All I could think of is "Well, if I can just get to this one spot near the jetties an hide from the waves, I should be fine." Well we made it to that spot very easily, but rain, wind, lightning and even a gigantic waterspout appeared (about a mile from us). I kept thinking, ok why am I out here...and where do I run to if that thing starts coming at us?
But we caught three bull reds, and lost about 6. So they had some action, and some relaxation. I would have NEVER tried to be out there if it were me my family, or me and a local friend. But since it was everyone from out of town, I gambled. On the way back, the seas were easily 4' and I was crawling up and over and down (following seas). It was a bit un-nerving for me, but we made it.
"Kids...do not try this at home...do as I say..not as i do!" I felt like a hypocrit. I did see someone a pontooner out there amoung the other 20 boats. So I was not alone. Some guy in a 20' sun tracker. Was that you???
